The Permanent Secretary for Primary and Secondary Education Mrs Sylvia Utete-Masango has said that the government will meet the representatives of teachers this week in order to iron out any differences the civil servants have with the government.
The impending strike
Various teacher’s unions threatened to go on strike when schools open on Tuesday next week. They said the government was ignoring their plight and issues they had raised previously. Among these issues are:
- Teacher’s allowances which are supposed to be 20% of basic pay
- Acting allowances
- Maternity relief
- Vacation leave
- Responsibility allowances
A previous meeting between six teacher’s unions and the government failed to yield a solution.
